"It takes a village to raise a child" is a phrase we hear more and more often in the context of early childhood education and development. And indeed, complex, understanding and accessible support is needed for parents and professionals working with children to support their children's emotional-cognitive-social-physical development in their daily lives.

Based on German and Swiss experience research has also demonstrated the need for these types of initiatives and gap-filling services, as we have seen.As of 2019, this process has been launched in Slovenia and Romania, and the results, pitfalls and joys of this work are presented in the PRIMOKIZ programme was shared with us at the launch in February 2022, in Bucharest, in a fantastic training session.

The result of the Primokiz programme is a a friendly, child- and family-oriented settlement

What is the Primokiz programme?

An Evidence base programme, which is Jacobs Foundation fDeveloped by quality of life for young children access to services to increase.

Multi-phase methodology for local governments for, which will help to develop strategic, participatory and can be a sensitive way to improve the health of young children services provided by.

In practice, the Primokiz programme means that, with the help of international funding and close international professional cooperation we are creating opportunities for parents and professionals with young children in local communities across Hungary, where there is a need, an idea and a desire, to come together and make their dreams a reality with the support of local government.

What does the Primokiz programme offer?

  • On the one hand, applicants can apply for training and capacity-building services under the programme to support professionals working with young children with methodologies and protocols to provide even better psychosocial support to children and their families in Hungary.
  • The first Psychological First Aid and Trauma Sensitization Training for Trainers was held in Budapest, Hungary, from 03.04.2023 to 05.04.2023. The trained trainers will pass on the knowledge acquired here to 200+ more early childhood professionals. WE WILL KEEP YOU POSTED ABOUT THE KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER OPPORTUNITIES, CHECK OUR WEBSITE AND FACEBOOK PAGE.
  • On the other hand, we encourage local governments and cities to participate in the Primokiz programme to strengthen existing services and create new ones based on the needs of the community, which they will jointly maintain.
  • Total 9 local government we have the possibility to support in the first round.
  • These municipalities can undertake to active persons of local service providers: a representative of the nursery, kindergarten, school or social workers and members of the civil community: parents, sensitive, active people together with, local needs, expand or create new services to respond to gaps. The point is that the service, which could be anything - a playroom for children, psychological counselling, a specialist in early childhood development - has the full legal backing of the municipality and ensures its long-term maintenance.
  • Responsive, community-based, non-formal service delivery to support families with young children.
  • Primokiz is great in its simplicity. It supports what parents and families need most at local level. In addition to existing public services, define what is needed. Get together and we will help you to make it happen, but the responsibility for maintaining it is shared between the NGOs and the municipality.
  • What can we think about? How much easier it is for a professional community dealing with early childhood development and traumatic experiences, for example, if the municipality can provide financial support and cover the rent of premises in the long term.
  • At the same time, we need to think about the ofamilies and children fleeing the war in Ukraine. From Children first programme also provides support to help them care for Ukrainian refugees in line with the needs of the local community.

The Primokiz programme is the Children first programmeand part of. So we look forward to the applications in the calls for proposals below - this part of the post will be updated as the programme progresses.
