During this training, participants were introduced to a success approach through situational exercises and interactive presentations. Professor Carol Dweck's book, published in English, is A change of mindset: the new psychology of success first outlined how our mindset can transform obstacles and failures into a resource for success.
The "fundamental difference between a fixed and a development-focused approach is that while people with a fixed approach see the possession of a skill or knowledge as a kind of static and unchangeable state, a gift from the chosen people and/or a stroke of luck, people with a developmental approach understand that the result can only be achieved through commitment and hard work. Fixed mindsets, on the other hand, believe that it is the world that needs to change, not them, yet at the same time - or perhaps because of this - their lives are overshadowed by a relentless desire to prove their character, intelligence and flawlessness. They also tend to see every situation as a test to see whether they will fail or succeed."This contrasts with the so-called developmental approach. Those who look at the world through this lens, unlike their fixed-minded counterparts, are better able to cope with failure and even learn from it. They also understand that the road to success is one of hard work and perseverance. They are the ones who, when faced with a difficult, trying or challenging life situation, react in a certain way. "I have more to learn." "If I'm persistent enough, I'm sure I'll find a solution." "It's just a matter of practice!". "If I don't succeed, I'll just try again!"
