{"id":69,"date":"2017-11-01T09:07:42","date_gmt":"2017-11-01T09:07:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.partnershungary.hu\/?p=69"},"modified":"2024-12-09T15:30:05","modified_gmt":"2024-12-09T14:30:05","slug":"lanyok-termeszettudomany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/partnershungary.hu\/en\/lanyok-termeszettudomany\/","title":{"rendered":"Project POWER - Girls in science"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Girls in science<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>What is the purpose of Project POWER?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Raising awareness among students, teachers and parents about the importance of science, with a particular focus on encouraging girls to pursue STEM careers<\/strong>, as they are still under-represented in this field.<\/p>\n<p>The elements of the programme included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>developing competences related to engineering and science through innovative tools,<\/li>\n<li>strengthen business English communication,<\/li>\n<li>increase personal effectiveness<\/li>\n<li>students have the opportunity to observe and learn about different professions and career paths and gain personal experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>The programme was encouraged to<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>more girls to choose a career in science or engineering,<\/li>\n<li>a <strong>science competences of secondary school students<\/strong>, interpersonal skills and English language skills.<\/li>\n<li><strong>enable teachers to develop professionally<\/strong>, to help secondary school students, especially girls, to choose a career through their own experiences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What have we done during PROJECT POWER?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>We worked initially with four and then two secondary schools on the project<\/strong>who have applied to participate in the programme<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students in the programme participate in in-school and extra-curricular development activities to improve their scientific competences, interpersonal skills (assertive communication, presentation) and English language skills.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Students get support to choose a career<\/strong>, gain insights into science-related careers through company visits and job shadowing.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Teachers have the opportunity to renew their methodologies and exchange experiences<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>By involving parents in certain project elements<\/strong> are brought closer to school life and made aware of the importance of science and technology careers and how to support their daughters in choosing them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What are the results?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>1000 students and 60 teachers<\/strong> were involved in the programme and in some project elements<\/li>\n<li><strong>300 students took part in a careers class<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>200 students worked on a school project<\/strong> within the framework of the programme<\/li>\n<li>The intensive small-group science and IT development in the programme has made a major contribution to the development of the three schools' students' <strong>for outstanding competitive performances:<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Lakeside High School and Secondary School of Arts: <strong>national third place in an international mathematics competition<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Rudas Secondary School and College of Economics: <strong> place in junior engineering competition<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Comenius girls' team: international <strong>first place in forest engineering competition<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Joint school workshop,<\/strong> where both students and teachers could get to know more about spectacular and interesting STEM-related activities: experiments and logic games<\/li>\n<li>The local media have given the programme a high profile and are happy to report on the events of the programme (10 articles in local written media, 1 television appearance)<\/li>\n<li>10 video interviews with female researchers\/engineers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other important information:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Supporting organisation: the Arconic Foundation, USA<\/li>\n<li>Project ID at the donor:222792<\/li>\n<li>Partners collaborating in the project:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Arconic K\u00f6f\u00e9m Kft.
